Iroquois Falls mayor Pat Britton has resigned that post effective today (Wed.).
Acting mayor Tory Delaurier confirms it, saying it’s for medical reasons resulting from ongoing health issues.
Delaurier will remain as acting mayor at least until next Thursday, when a special council meeting will deal with applications from councillors.
“I did put my paperwork in to try and be accepted to be the next mayor of Iroquois Falls,” he states. So far, his is the only application.
Delaurier pays tribute to Britton. “He has the best intentions for the community but right now it’s overwhelming for him and his health and he wants to focus on his family and his health at this time.”
Regardless of whoever gets the mayor’s spot, there will be a vacancy for a councillor. Members of the public can apply for that.
The current term of council expires in late 2022.
