Resource sector provides opportunities for Timmins-James Bay: incumbent MP

New Democrat Charlie Angus is running in his seventh election… to be returned as Timmins-James Bay MP. He’s held the post since 2004.

The 58-year-old says Justin Trudeau was irresponsible calling the election while we’re in the midst of the country’s worst ever economic, medical and environmental catastrophe.

He says he’s helping people and businesses get through it, and to ensure investments in the region.

“So coming out of this, it’s like we are not going to give up that responsibility,” Angus states emphatically. “We are going to continue to fight for people and we need to go back to parliament with a vision about putting Canadians first, instead of politics.”

The resurging resource sector gives the riding a lot of opportunity, says Angus. But that opportunity needs to be tied to climate change.

“The planet is on fire and we need the strategic metals, we need to be looking at resource development within a lens that’s sustainable and I think we’ve got really good success stories in Timmins-James Bay.”

Angus adds that we need the investments to make those benefits tangible here, not in a board room somewhere else.

Leading up to the September 20th vote, Angus’s campaign has four offices across the riding, and teams of volunteers in each community.
