FIRST NATIONS HEALTHCARE

The Mattagami First Nation has ten third-year nursing student visitors from Northern College learning about Aboriginal Communities.  As part of Northern’s Rural and Remote Nursing Experience, students spend time in First Nation communities learning about healthcare in remote areas.  The program’s coordinator, Johanne Carbonneau says it’s important healthcare professionals in the north are equipped to work in Aboriginal communities.  She says a better understanding of First Nations and Aboriginal culture, along possible holistic practices are important parts of working in the healthcare field in the Northeast.
