A big push to get youth vaccinated against COVID-19 gets underway today. Several drop-in clinics for youth 12 start at various schools across our region including Iroquois Falls Secondary School today from 3 to 7. Porcupine Health Unit’s Program Manager Kendra Brunet says before attending any of the clinics, the youth should have a conversation with an adult that they trust.
“So whether it be a parent, a caregiver, a guardian, a teacher a healthcare provider, you know have a good conversation about the vaccine,” she said. “if you want come out to the clinic as well – there are health care professionals there as well, who can answer questions and make it a safe experience for everyone coming.”
Brunet says a safe and welcoming environment has been created for the students when they arrive.
“They can come and do a walk through, ask questions, and come with a peer and just check it out,” she said. “There is no pressure to take the vaccine if they are not ready. But really to get familiar and comfortable with the idea, have a look around in a setting that feels right.”
