Catton reiterates that PHU territory will not go into recovery phase tonight

Any hope has been dashed, that the Porcupine Health Unit region might join the rest of the province at midnight and move into COVID-19 recovery phase 1.

Medical officer of health Dr. Lianne Catton is anticipating that we’ll be able to catch up on Thursday, June 24th.

“It’s simple,” she begins to outline, with a sigh. “The situation in the Porcupine Health Unit – the numbers, the cases, the outbreaks, the modelling of the Delta variant which is absolutely alarming and very, very concerning for us all – does not support easing the current restrictions.”

Catton says she’s hopeful that the trends will start to stabilize over the next two weeks, and that expert advice on the Delta variant will allow it.  She also urges continued diligence to all the restrictions and health measures.

“We will get there. But we need to do it together. And we need to do it with respect and kindness. That is the only way we will get through this, and I know we can.”
