Snowmobile trails in region still in good shape despite mild weather

The mild weather over the past week has caused some minor issues to the snowmobile trails in our region. Northern Corridor du Nord Chief Administrative Office JP Ouellette says several snowmobile trails have been changed from green to yellow or open or proceed with caution, including a section of trail south of the corridor’s foot print.

“It’s the Smooth Rock Falls link going towards Timmins, the ‘C’ trail, it’s gone from green to yellow,” he said. “In Hornepayne as well from the south part, and in fact most of the trails are yellow at this point. There hasn’t been a lot of snow in the Northwest part of the region this year so it’s been a challenge for clubs to groom trails.”

Ouellette says the snow packed conditions on some of the trails are passible for riders.

“Still a very enjoyable ride in comparison if you were running into fresh powdery snow this time of year when it’s starting to melt and it gets a lot more cushy and your sinking,” he said. “So the trails are still a very good experience at this point.”

Snowmobile enthusiasts should consult the interactive trail guide on the OFSC website for the latest trail conditions.
