CRASHED HELICOPTER REMOVED

Safety investigators have removed the helicopter that crashed near Foleyet last week killing its two occupants.  The primary objective of the ongoing investigation is the discovery of why the Robinson R44 – a respected and reliable design – crashed.  They are also investigating why the Emergency Locator Transmitter, designed to alert rescuers of a downed airplane’s location, was so heavily damaged in the crash that it failed to perform its task.  ELTs are specifically designed to endure heavy impacts.
