POLICE ENFORCING NEW FINES

New driving laws came into effect this month and local police have been dishing out fines.  Staff Sergeant Baldassare Nuccio with the Kapuskasing and Hearst OPP says distracted driving fines are at an all-time high.  Nuccio says the rise is due to the focus on catching drivers on their phones.  He says police are hoping to deter drivers with the new fixed fine and demerit points and expects to see that number drop.  The new laws include cyclists needing a light, increased fines for ‘dooring’ bikers and a set fine for distracted and careless driving.opp
