Caring Communities Radiothon looking for $60,000 for pulmonary function machine

Don’t look now, but December’s here, and among thousands of other things, it means the Moose Community Cares Radiothon is close.

All day from 6:00am until 6:00pm on Thursday, December 17, we’ll be on the air, asking for pledges to the MICs hospitals in Cochrane, Iroquois Falls and Matheson.

Pat Dorff is board chair at Lady Minto Hospital in Cochrane.  She says the target for this year is $60,000, to buy a pulmonary function machine.

It tests lung capacity, how the lungs are working, and the flow of gas exchange in them.

“When they’re performing the tests, the patient sits in a chamber that sort of resembles a telephone booth and the door’s closed,” says Dorff. “Because Anson General is the middle, that’s where the machine is going to be stationed.”

Patients from Cochrane and Matheson will be brought to Iroquois Falls when they need lung testing.  Up until now, they’ve had to go to Timmins.
