Short stay absences suspended by MICs

With the last three COVID-19 diagnoses apparently in their area… the long-term care facilities administered by the MICs Health Care Group have suspended short-stay absences.

CEO Paul Chatelain says it’s because the last three COVID-19 diagnoses are been in the area that includes Cochrane, Iroquois Falls and Matheson.

“We want to kind of eradicate the COVID in the community,” Chatelain states, “so our residents will be safe and hopefully the family members will be able to join them for Christmas.”

A short-stay absence is for things like shopping or a meal.

“We have visits coming in, family members, so it’s a controlled environment,” Chatelain adds. “They’re screened and all that. But we don’t know really what’s happening when they go in the communities.”

The situation will be re-evaluated on Monday.
