It’s all about social distancing, if the Cochrane Curling Club season proceeds

The Cochrane Curling Club is hoping that COVID-19 hasn’t swept away any interest in the sport.

The way the game is played this coming winter will be a bit different due to the pandemic – if there’s a season at all.

Vice-president Chris Wright says the club is posting its return to play plan online, and taking registrations.

“We’re not collecting any fees for it,” he’s quick to point out. “It’s just for us to get an idea of what the interest is to kind of help our board make that decision.”

Should the curling season proceed, it will be all about physical distancing, with one significant rule change: only one sweeper.

“So only that person that’s sweeping their thrower’s rock is the only one that can sweep,” Wright explains. The opposing skip cannot be in the house to sweep behind the T-line, and has to be behind the hack.

Registration is open until Thanksgiving Monday, then a final decision on the season will be made.
