Charlie Angus is paying his respects to the woman who recently died in a mining accident. The Timmins-James Bay MP rose in Parliament to recognize 22 year old Alexie Dallaire Vincent. It is believed that she is the first female to die in Ontario in a mining accident, which Angus says is a terrible milestone.
“Alexie was worth more than all the gold that will be ever dug from that mine,” says Angus. “As we mourn her loss, let us organize to prevent such tragedies in the future.
“Women have been breaking down barriers in the mining environment. They are beginning to take their rightful place in the good paying jobs on the surface and deep underground. This transformation will continue. What we need to learn from her death is how to ensure such accidents will never happen again. We have seen too many young miners killed in recent years and lessons must be learned.”
