The NDP says that the government has failed to ensure northerners have secure access to nutritious and affordable food. Northern NDP MPs are taking action to fix the Nutrition North Program. Included in the members are Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP Carol Hughes and Timmins-James Bay’s Charlie Angus. Hughes says 27 communities in Conservative ridings are in this situation.
Hughes goes on to say that their proposal includes a motion that would incorporate 50 isolated, fly-in northern communities that are not eligible for a full subsidy under current Nutrition North provisions.
