More people recovering from COVID-19; new record low of new cases since March

It is the first time Ontario has seen less than 180 new cases of COVID-19 since March 28th.  Ontario has added 173 cases over the last 24-hours bringing the provincial total to 32,917.  Another three people have passed away, bringing the death toll to 2,553. That is also the lowest number of deaths in the province since the end of March. The number of people recovering continues to surpass the number of people getting sick, with 220 cases considered resolved over the last day. The recovery rate has jumped to 85.1-percent. The Ministry of Health reports 24,278 tests have been completed since yesterday.

In an exclusive interview with Vista Radio, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. David Williams is hopeful that today’s record-breaking low number of new cases continues, “If we do this well, we keep the numbers down, we will move steadily toward the next stage, and all this depends on that our numbers keep going down.  We got the numbers in for today and we are down to 173, that’s the first time below 180 in a long time.”

Dr. Williams says keeping the numbers low depends a lot on how Ontarians behave in the next two to three weeks with maintaining social circles of ten people and practicing will help in the future, “ I’d like to get them [the number of new cases] down below 20 to 30 for the province, that may seem idealistic, I’d like to see zero sometimes, I think that we can do it.  I think if we do this well, I‘d like to also use that as an investment for how can we prevent a secondary wave.  We have to practice this before it comes.”
