I.F. Public Library starts pick-up service

In its first day, a COVID-19 way of safely borrowing books from the Iroquois Falls Public Library is registering best-seller numbers.

It’s a pick-up service.  Library CEO Diane Gagnon says during the first morning, she got 20 phone calls and emails from patrons with their book orders.

Once the order is ready, she contacts the patron, and a time is set for them to pick up the books from between the library’s front doors.

“The place where they are picking up the books is kind of small, so I prefer just to have one person at a time,” explains Gagnon.  “They only open the door, there’s a table there, and they pick up their books and leave.”

Audio books and movies are also available that way.

You return the material in the regular book drop.

“I leave them in the book bin for 72 hours” the CEO says.  “After that, I bring them in, I wash them.  After I’ve washed them, I still leave them in isolation for another 72 hours.”
