The social media option is proving its worth in keeping us connected during the pandemic.
Musicians Sabrina and Dave are staging their fourth Facebook concert tonight (Saturday) at seven from the couple’s home in Matheson. And Cochrane’s Miss Ardis the Singing Librarian is doing her fourth from her home at the same time.
Sabrina Charlebois says it’s a way to help people – and themselves – through a hard time.
“So we tried it and he had a lot of people popping in,” Dave Sauvé’s partner in music and marriage comments. “People felt like they were socializing and they were talking to each other, so we just wanted to create a positive vibe online.”
Dave says it’s good for him and Sabrina, too.
“It’s easy with everything going on to just stop and not do anything with our music and music is something that if you can stop playing, you get rusty and it’s good to keep practicing and keep the momentum going,” he says, with Sabrina indicating concurrence.
The number of views has hit the six-thousand level at times. When you consider that more than one person is part of most of the views, you get an idea of the size of the audience.
Ardis Proulx-Chedore says it’s really a matter of moving her regular Saturday night karaoke gig from the Ice Hut to the internet.
“That’s what I did. It was just kind of part of my routine,” she remarks. “And then suddenly I had a Saturday night off and I was like ‘What do I do now?’”

Ardis’s concert is also live by request. “We do it on Facebook Live, so we watch the comments and we do it in real time. If people want to put their requests in earlier, they can just message the Facebook page and I’ll make a request list.”
Both acts plan to go online every Saturday night as long as the pandemic’s physical distancing measures are in effect.
