COVID-19 update – Tues., March 31

BY THE NUMBERS

Two more confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Porcupine Health Unit territory, bringing the total to 12.  Both are women from Timmins – one in her 30s, one in her 60s – and they’re both in home isolation.

Medical officer of health Doctor Lianne Catton reported all the numbers at the daily briefing.

“We’ve had 287 tests done across the PHU, 189 have come back negative and at this time 98 are pending.  We have confirmed 12 positive cases with five resolved.”

The Ontario government lab on Wilson Avenue in Timmins is now processing the tests for Northeastern Ontario, so results should be available more quickly.

SOCIAL DISTANCING IN THE SPRING

Provincial emergency measures now apply to most outdoor recreation areas, right on time for spring to take a solid hold on Ontario.

Porcupine Health Unit medical officer of health Doctor Lianne Catton knows that makes it difficult not to go outside.

“We are seeing increased concerns about the lack of physical distancing in areas across Ontario as the spring weather arrives,” she remarks.  “And although we don’t see that today at least here in Timmins, we know we had some of these days, and we know we’ll have more to come.”

“We really want to ensure that our entire PHU population is prepared to enjoy the nice weather, but only with their immediate family members and not if you are in self-isolation.  This is critical.”
