Cochrane council will meet… via telephone

So much is closed to the public amid the coronavirus fears, but the business of the Town of Cochrane will go on.  And that includes the mayor meeting regularly with his councillors.

“Presently we are going ahead with our council meetings,” says Mayor Denis Clement.

He notes that a couple councillors called in to the meeting this past Tuesday night.  The next one is scheduled for March 31st.

“The province has passed a law that we can certainly conduct our business – council meetings – over the telephone. So we may be doing more of that, depending on the situation.”

However, if councillors want to be physically at any meeting, the mayor says social distancing can still be observed in the meeting room.

“It’s going to be a little tricky but what we’re also going to do if any directors do not have reports, then we will not ask them to come.”
