Carnival on hold thanks to COVID-19

The Iroquois Falls Winter Carnival is being postponed — another victim of the situation involving COVID-19.

The carnival committee is a committee of town council.  Mayor Pat Britton says the postponement decision was reached during an emergency meeting this morning.

“We figured we’d be proactive instead of reactive,” the mayor tells My Cochrane Now Dot Com.  “At the meeting, council decided to postpone the carnival to a later date.”

Carnival chairman Tory Delaurier called a meeting of his committee immediately after the council meeting, and says the committee backs the decision one-hundred percent. He won’t use the word “cancelled”, holding out hope that things can be rescheduled once the pandemic subsides.

“We’ll be working with sponsors to try and see what we can do with them to try and keep them on board,” the chairman notes.  “Also tickets for the demolition derby and concert will be reimbursed.  Details to follow.”
