Red/white health card no good as of July 1st

If you’re still carrying a red and white Ontario health card, it’s time to trade it in on a new photo health card.

The Ontario government won’t recognize the old card as of July 1st.

MICS group of hospitals CEO Paul Chatelain says his organization is getting out the word now at its facilities in Cochrane, Iroquois Falls and Matheson.

“We are going to be rolling out an advertising campaign, posters in our reception areas to remind our patients who do have the red and white card to go to Service Ontario to get a photo ID, which is at no charge,” says Chatelain.

“If it’s an emergency situation, we still have to treat the patient, of course.  If there’s lab work to be done, we will have to ask them to provide a Visa or a Mastercard to pay.  We’ll give them ample time to go and reapply and we will issue a refund once they have the new card.”
