This week’s look at Cochrane history takes us back to August 7th, 1977.
As Cochrane Public Library archivist Ardis Proulx-Chedore found in the pages of the Northland Post, that was the day of the third annual Lions Club senior citizens’ picnic at Greenwater Provincial Park.
“Threatening skies did not deter the close to 100 participants who travelled by bus and car to the park for an afternoon under the trees beside Green Lake,” Proulx-Chedore reads. “The seniors enjoyed the typical picnic fare, as the Lions Club members were kept busy grilling hot dogs and hamburgers, boiling cobs of corn and serving baked beans. The meal was topped off with an ice cream cone.”
The archives at the Cochrane Public Library are open every Friday between noon and 3:00pm.
