Northland Power fined for silt spills into creeks

Northland Power has been fined a total of $275,000 for putting sediment into two creeks near Cochrane.

The locally familiar company has four solar farms north of town.  While they were being built in 2015, heavy rainfall caused an overflow in two locations designed to hold back water and sediment.

It was fined $200,000 in connection with the silt that got into Munroe Creek in Glackmeyer Township, and $75,000 for Smith Creek in Calder Township.
