Feds need to step up rail safety, says Minister of Aboriginal Affairs

The Minister of Aboriginal Affairs is in talks with the Mattagami First Nation about the latest derailment. David Zimmer says the safety and well-being of those affected is his top priority. The transportation of dangerous goods, including oil, is the responsibility of the federal government. Zimmer says this accident is the latest example showing why the Harper government needs to do more to improve rail safety. Although there is no water drinking advisory for Gogama and Mattagami First Nations, there is one for any downstream water users who take water directly from the lake.
