No Bantam hockey tournament during winter carnival this year

For the first time in about half a century, there will be no Chimo Bantam hockey tournament during the Cochrane Winter Carnival.

“Cochrane Minor Hockey just didn’t have the registration they needed to move forward with the tournament,” says carnival co-chair Yvonne Lemieux. “but Ryan Leonard has decided to host his own Crunch Classic Midget rep tournament and that will be on the second weekend of carnival, from the 14th to the 16th.”

Lemieux says the tournament has been a fixture of the festivities for a long time.

“For the most part, it’s been running since the new inception of Carnival that started in the late 60s, early 70s.”

The carnival runs from Friday, February 7th until Family Day on Monday the 17th,  although the traditional torchlight parade, bonfire and fireworks on Lake Commando are set for Wednesday the 5th.
