New Year’s Eve dance at Pavilion cancelled

Cochrane’s Commando Pavilion will be strangely dark and quiet this New Year’s Eve. A dance planned for the town’s premiere venue has been cancelled.

Recreation Board chair Shea Henderson says it’s because of low advance ticket sales.

“It was a volunteer group putting it on” he outlines.  “There was costs to this event and we went forward, knowing we were going to have to advance ticket sales to figure out what our numbers would be and there just wasn’t enough sales to justify moving forward with it at the time that the tickets were closing.”

Henderson says the dance was meant to be a fundraiser for the planned splash pad.

“Unfortunately, it’s a tough decision to be made but with the ticket sales we had it just wasn’t even getting close to what we needed to justify breaking even.”

Henderson says he knows of at least one other New Year’s Eve dance in Cochrane.  It’s at the Royal Canadian Legion.
