Local history: Cochrane springing up in 1911

This week in our examination of the early days of Cochrane… we look back at 1911, as buildings still familiar to many of us started to spring up.

Cochrane Public Library archivist Ardis Proulx-Chedore reads from a building report in the Northland Post.

“The Bank of Ottawa building is nearing completion.  The King George Hotel is rapidly progressing and is getting rushed along in great style.  The Catholic and Presbyterian churches are both near completion and arrangements will be made soon for services to be held at both.”

The library’s archives are open to the public every Friday afternoon between noon and three.
