Giving is genetic to the Fortier family

Last week’s $25,000 donation to the Caring Communities Radiothon from Fortier Beverages is just the latest example of the Fortier family’s generosity.

President and owner Ray Fortier says his family has been in Cochrane for more than 80 years, and he wanted to do something for the hospitals in Cochrane, Iroquois Falls and Matheson.

He spoke to lab techs at the hospital about the machine his donation will help buy.

“And it’s really incredible the time they’re going to save and the accuracy they’re going to be getting,” he comments, “and it’s going to really help the doctors when they prescribe antibiotics to patients.  So I think we did a very good deal.”

Fortier Beverages distributes Coca-Cola products between Temagami and Geraldton.  Ray Fortier says the company has also supported the Timmins and District Hospital in the past.

He also notes that his family has always supported the community.  He himself was Cochrane’s mayor for five years.

“We’re a little political family also.  My father was on council for a few years before I was mayor, and we have our niece, Mona Fortier, she’s a minister with the new federal government.”

Mona is associate finance minister, and minister of middle-class prosperity.
