Crunch steps up for Habitat

The junior hockey team in Cochrane has a polar bear mascot and polar bears on all its jerseys, so it’s a natural fit for the Crunch to step up to help save the Polar Bear Habitat.

Coach and general manager Ryan Leonard has an event planned for Friday, November 22nd, when the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners come to town for the first time this year.

Proceeds from the first 150 fans will go to pay the team’s expenses.  All the rest will go to the Habitat.  Leonard’s hoping for a record attendance of 600 people.

“That means there’s 450 fans that contributed towards the Polar Bear Habitat that nigh,” Leonard says, doing the math..  “With that kind of number, you’re looking at a $5,000 donation if we can hit this target.”

“It should be fun and at the same time, the Polar Bear Habitat will have people on hand here in our lobby with some literature and also any questions and a table set up to talk about it,” the hockey boss adds.
