Flood’s Landing steps up for the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat with fundraiser

At least one area business is stepping up to support the Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat,in the hope of keeping it from being shut down.

Flood’s Landing Campground — about a 20-minute drive from Cochrane via Clute — is planning a social gathering this Saturday to support the Habitat. Owner Wendy Tanner says it’s called “I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” and starts at 2:00pm, “till whenever the last person leaves.”

“And we’re going to decorate the chalet up in white lights with a big Christmas tree and just make it festive and hope that a lot of people show up and have a good time, “ Tanner adds.

Hot chocolate, apple cider and other goodies will be for sale, with all proceeds to the Polar Bear Habitat.  Tanner says direct donations will also be accepted.

HABITAT IMPORTANT TO FLOOD’S LANDING

Tanner says the Habitat is extremely important to her business.  She doesn’t know of any visitor who’s been disappointed with it.

“As soon as I posted the town is thinking of closing it,” she notes, “I immediately started getting responses from folks who’ve stayed here over the years and everybody has the same feeling: they don’t want to see it closed.”
