The second train derailment in less than a month hits Gogama

Highway 144 has re-opened following a train derailment early Saturday morning. 35 CN cars derailed just a few kilometers south of Gogama. Some of the cars caught fire which crews fought well into yesterday. Others went into the Mattagami River system prompting a warning to residents of the Mattagami First Nation not to drink the water. The rail cars were carrying crude oil. The cause for the derailment isn’t known yet. Although Highway 144 has re-opened, OPP say they might need to close it periodically so rail cars can be removed.
