Learning centres looking for directors

The Adult Learning Centres in Cochrane and Iroquois Falls are a lot of things to a lot of people, and they’re looking for members to sit on their board of directors.

Executive director Denise Tremblay says the board needs people who are already busy, and passionate about their community.

“People who have been on boards.  There’s definitely an advantage to that,” she comments. “So that prior experience on how to manage a board, especially a non-profit, is always a bonus for us.”

The centres provide a wide range of literacy, math and other skills for adults looking to upgrade or fill a gap in their experience that might be holding them back from employment opportunities.

If you’re interested, you can drop in to one of the centres’ three locations.

“We’ve got a location in Iroquois Falls, 723 Synagogue.  It’s where the bowling alley is in Iroquois Falls,” Tremblay explains.  “In Cochrane, where the Employment Services office is and that’s  on Fifth Avenue in Cochrane and my office is above Canada Post on Sixth Avenue in Cochrane.”
