Triple ordination Wednesday night

Anglicans from across the Diocese of Moosonee will congregate this Wednesday evening at St. Matthew’s Cathedral in Timmins for an unusual event.

St. Matthew’s dean, the Very Reverend Valerie Isaac, says Anne-Marie Carriere of Kapuskasing will be ordained as a deacon.  At the same time, Kashechewan First Nation Chief Leo Friday… and Anne Westgate of Mistassini, Quebec will be ordained as Anglican priests.

“Three ordinations is a pretty big event in the life of any congregation, any church.  So this is a very special evening,” says Isaac

“The first step is to become a deacon,” she explains.  “And then the following step is to be, as we say, become priested.”

The major difference between a deacon and a priest is that a deacon cannot consecrate elements of the Eucharist while a priest can.

The ceremony is open to anyone.  It begins at 7:30 Wednesday night.
