No question what Mayor Clement wants from eventual Timmins-James Bay MP

Without missing a beat, Cochrane Mayor Denis Clement has a quick answer to the question of what he wants the most from whoever wins the Timmins-James Bay seat in next Monday’s federal election: more infrastructure money.

“Our roads are in shambles as in a lot of northern communities,” the mayor comments, “so I would hope and expect that the federal government will be providing more funding available for infrastructure services in our northern communities.”

Meanwhile, if you were taking a quiz about Cochrane and were asked how many homeless people live there, would your answer come even close to 300?

That’s the latest figure that Mayor Denis Clement is working with, looking for a solution.

It’s another of his priorities for whoever wins the federal election locally.

“So I’ll be looking for some type of funding opportunities, some partnerships to explore what we can do for the less fortunate.”

Clement and his council are already waiting for a consultant’s report next month, on the possibilities for affordable housing and other methods of addressing homelessness and poverty.
