Iroquois Falls launches seniors active living program on National Seniors Days

To mark National Seniors Day next Tuesday, October 1st, the recreation department in Iroquois Falls is launching its Seniors Active Living Program.

“So it’s no cost to seniors to use the Jus Jordan Arena sports complex all day,” says coordinator Jennifer Jamieson.

There’s also a drop-in centre to find out what is planned for the program, and hear what seniors themselves want to see.

“It’s being involved and connected to the community,” Jamieson remarks.  “Many are now, but there are many who might need a little boost to get out there and get involved.  And so that’s why we’re here, to see if we can’t make that happen.”

the word “seniors” in the name is very flexible.

“The program is a New Horizons grant program, so the numbers that we count are people who are 65 and over, but the program is for anybody,” Jamieson explains.  “So if someone is 55 or 50 and would really benefit from being involved in something, we don’t turn anybody away.  It’s all about community.
