Open house planned at Iroquois Falls fire hall for Fire Prevention Week

Your chance to bring your kids to see what goes on at the main fire hall in Iroquois Falls comes up on Saturday, October 12, the last day of Fire Prevention Week.

Fire prevention officer Tyler Mongeon says an open house is planned for that day.

“The intent behind it,” he says, “is to provide fire safety information and emergency preparedness.”

To achieve that, there will be a free barbecue; and a tour of the fire hall on Devonshire Avenue with firefighters on hand to answer questions and show off the trucks and equipment.

Mongeon says while the department is recruiting new volunteers, this event isn’t specifically for that purpose.

“With an open house, we like the community to come in and ask any questions that they may have,” Mongeon notes. “So if anybody’s definitely interested in volunteering, I myself will be there as well as other firefighters who can provide as much information as possible on the process of recruiting and what it’s like to be a volunteer firefighter in Iroquois Falls.

And yes, you get to sit in a fire truck.

“Absolutely.  That’s one of the events we’ll be having,” Mongeon states.  “So we’ll have some firefighters here as well, and they’ll be giving tours of the hall, showing off equipment, showing off the trucks, allowing people to sit inside and see what it’s like to be a firefighter.”

That’s on October 12, the final day of Fire Prevention Week.
