Smile cookies help Access Transit

Access Transit is hoping that the single Tim Hortons location in Iroquois Falls sells more than 10,000 Smile cookies next week.  That will mean $10,000 to the volunteer group that provides a bus for the elderly and mobility-challenged.

Secretary and bus treasurer Suzanne Castonguay says cookie sales brought in eight-thousand dollars last year, and six-thousand the year before.  That can buy a lot of fuel.

“Our bus is on the road all week, so there’s a lot of fuel being used,” Castonguay says.  “And then we have two paid drivers. And then there’s always the repairs and the oil changes and all that stuff, so the money is amazing for us.”

This is the third year that Access Transit will benefit from cookie sales.

“Last year, they brought in over $8,000 for us and the year before they brought in over $6,000.  So it’s amazing.”

Every smile cookie costs $1.00 and all of that goes to Access Transit.

Castonguay notes that 20 volunteers are helping decorate the cookies. They’re on sale September 16th to 22nd.
