Here’s another good reason to buy season tickets for the Cochrane Crunch.
On the same day that team owner Ryan Leonard confirmed that his junior-A hockey team is staying in Cochrane, he confirmed that Nick Belisle is coming home to suit up for the Crunch this season.
The 19-year-old forward started last year with the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners before going to Rayside, and finishing up the season with the Espanola Express.
“In 42 games, I had 18 points. I think six goals and 12 assists,” he reports.

Belisle gives a slightly embarrassed chuckle over Leonard’s assessment of him as a solid forward who has worked hard to mature as a player.
“Last summer, I saw the most development going from Midget to Junior. I thought that was my year when I developed the most and I’m hoping this year I’ll be able to say the same,” he comments. “I’ve been training like crazy this summer to try and help Cochrane win and have a good season.”
He says playing for his hometown team is “gonna be nuts.”
“I haven’t lived, spent a full year living at home, I haven’t played in Cochrane since my first year Bantam. So it’s going to be awesome to be able to live at home. I won’t have to pack up all my belongings for the sixth year in a row.”
