Warnings issued to campers regarding ‘bear attractants’

Six warnings have been issued to campers at Kettle Lakes Provincial Park so far this summer… for not storing food or garbage properly, something that can attract bears and other wildlife into the campgrounds.

Timmins area superintendent for Ontario Parks Chris Caldwell says public safety is the top priority.

“If a bear is lingering in on a campground because of bear attractants,” he notes, “Ontario Parks will actually trap and relocate the bears from the park.”

If a warning to a camper is escalated to an offence notice, the fine is $120.
