Grants and art all part of BR-M Main Street revitalization program

Black River-Matheson Township is embarking on its own version of a Main Street revitalization program.

Businesses in each of the five communities in the township are eligible to apply for money to help renew their façades, get a new sign, siding, doors or windows.

CAO John Regan says the grants are supported by $40,000 from the province and $40,000 from the township.

“It’s a very simple application,” adds Regan.  “No red tape. Apply for the grant and well fund up to 50% of that up to $5,000.”

More details will be available on Matheson’s main street – Fifth Avenue – on Canada Day.  And at 11:45am, Mayor Gilles Laderoute will unveil some street art selected for the revitalization.

“It’s in a storefront that’s all been papered up,” Regan explains, “and Mayor Laderoute is going to pull a string and down will come the paper and you’ll be able to se what’s going to get exposed.”
