A town councillor in Cochrane not only wants to tell people to slow down on Highway 11 at the entrance to town, he wants to make it the law.
At tonight’s meeting, Dan Belisle will ask his colleagues to petition the provincial transportation ministry to reduce the speed limit in that area from 70 kilometres an hour to 50.
He points out that there is a lot of pedestrian traffic there, and uses the high number of people who cross the highway from Petro Canada to Tim Hortons as a prime example.
He would also like the MTO to post signs alerting drivers to the presence of people walking along and crossing the road.
