Events commemorating National Indigenous Peoples Day in Cochrane tomorrow begin with a sunrise ceremony at the Commando Pavilion at 5:30am and continue into the evening, when a special ceremony will wrap things up.
Ininew Friendship Centre executive director Bernice Brunette says a plaque will be unveiled… in honour of the centre’s founders.
“In 1974, the Ininew Friendship Centre was incorporated and the founders – we have four of them that are still in the community – and we wanted to celebrate their achievements,” says Brunette.
Like the vast majority of the day’s events, Brunette says it will be held at the Pavilion.
“It’s going to be a reception, then the ceremony and some live entertainment after.”
