Trying for a Toastmasters comeback in Cochrane

There used to be a Toastmasters Club in Cochrane, and there might be a new one in the near future, following a meeting tonight.

The Ininew Friendship Centre asked Toastmasters area director Lisa Wilson for help getting a club going.

As Wilson explains, it’s more than just learning how to speak to a crowd.

“It’s public speaking as well as leadership and some people actually just come to improve their social skills,” Wilson says, adding that some people join to improve their language skills, when English is not their first language.

To see how a two-hour Toastmasters meeting works, you can go to the Friendship Centre tonight at 6:00.

Wilson will run an actual meeting, with the help of a couple of members of the Timmins club.

“Once we’ve run that meeting, hopefully we can plan some other meetings and get them moving forward with the intention of getting the club fully up and running.”

The meeting is open to anyone who’s interested.
