The time is now to get involved in annual MADD event

The event is a month away, but now is a good time to start collecting pledges for the annual Strides for Change walk on June 1st.

It’s a project of the MADD Canada chapter that covers Timmins, Cochrane and Iroquois Falls. Media coordinator Amy St. Amour says it’s held at the Gillies Lake Conservation Area.

“We’ll have a barbecue to kick things off, it starts at 11:00,” she says, “and our walk officially starts at 1:00.”

All the money raised goes to public education about the dangers of impaired driving and to help local victims of those drivers.

St. Amour says the walk is five kilometres long.

“Basically about twice around Gillies Lake.  You can walk, run, ride, roll.  Bring your pets, bring your children, we’re gonna have tons of family friendly events going on as well.”

Those family friendly events include a treasure hut, face painting, games and prizes.

Pledge sheets are available from [email protected].  More details are on the MADD Timmins Chapter Facebook page.
