Kashechewan flood evacuees settle in to Cochrane

As expected… flood evacuees from the James Bay coast community of Kashechewan have arrived in Cochrane.

“So far, we’ve received three planeloads for a total of 107 people in Cochrane,” according to community emergency management coordinator, Richard Vallée.

People have been coming to Cochrane from Kash every spring for several years.  Vallée says the operation has become routine, so there have been no surprises this time.

“The group that we have is very well composed and we have lots of helpers.  It’s very good,” he says. “We’re used to getting (them) here, they’re used to coming here, so I mean it’s a really good relationship and everything’s good so far.”

Vallée says the agencies he’s working with are prepared to take in up to two-hundred people if necessary.
