‘Artistic Endeavours’ study the masters, borrow from their techniques

Their renditions of the works of some of the great masters are the focus of a small group of artists in Cochrane.

They’re all members of the Cochrane Arts Club… and meet every Thursday afternoon at the library to study and discuss one different master a month.

The group calls itself “Artistic Endeavours” and started in January with Vincent Van Gogh.  Member Dianne Bradley says they’ve moved on through Maude Lewis, Tom Thomson, Emily Carr,  and next month, Claude Monet.

Then they try to replicate the styles and techniques of those renowned painters.

“That’s what it’s all about,” Bradley points out, “to kind of step outside the box of your normal artistic endeavours, try something new, learn about the masters at the same time.  It’s not really copyright, because it’s our rendition of how we see their paintings.

“When I started with the Cochrane Arts Club, I didn’t have any artistic abilities at all.  So each of the members have helped me to learn something new each time I come, which has caused me to be brave enough to put my paintings on the walls.”

Many of the members’ paintings will be on the gallery walls of the Cochrane Public Library for the month of May.  Some will be part of a silent auction to help pay for gallery renovations.
