When cabinet minister Mélanie Joly opened the FedNor purse in Timmins on Thursday, Black River-Matheson Township got $439,058.
Mayor Gilles Laderoute says it will be used to revamp the boat launch on the Black River, just off Highway 101, right in Matheson.
“More boats, more people stopping in and taking the time to take the view that we have to offer the area, and the assets that we have in Black River-Matheson,” he says.
“In the winter, we have snowmobilers, anglers and different people that are looking at probably creating a fishing derby. They could use the facilities for that also. That’s a great asset for that.”
