Dipping a line through the ice could win you a prize

Ice fishing season is still on across Northern Ontario, and The Cochrane Figure Skating Club is taking advantage of it.

Along with the Crunch hockey team, the skating club is staging an ice fishing derby on Lake Commando next Saturday, March 30th.

Skating club president Trudy Owens says the anglers with the top 15 longest fish will win great prizes.

“The registration fee is $110 and there is only 200 holes being sold,” she says. “First prize is 33.3% of the registration, second prize is 7.6% of the registration, third is 4.6, fourth is 2.2, fifth is 1.5.”

Owens adds that there’s incentive to register early.

“If some people have their registration done by Wednesday, March 27th, they’re going to be put into a draw for a gas-powered auger.”

Food will be available in the pavilion all day long.  That’s also where prizes will be handed out at the end of the day.  You can register at the Board of Trade office, or the Crunch office at the Tim Horton Event Centre.
