Comedy benefits battling each other is no laughing matter

The type of entertainment doing benefit shows for charities seems to follow trends.  The latest one is the stand-up comedy act.  What’s not funny is when it results in those fundraisers battling it out for ticket sales.

Such is the case for an event in support of Cadence Residence in Cochrane, says administrator Lee-Ann St. Jacques.

“After we secured our comedian” she tells My Cochrane Now Dot Com, “we then found out that there were other comedians coming to Cochrane in the same month. “

Cadence offers supportive housing to senior citizens, providing meals, housekeeping, medication reminders and social activities.  St. Jacques says the Derek Seguin comedy show is meant to help keep the rates affordable for those seniors at the non-profit facility.

“We do fundraising, we request donations, we apply for grants, we build partnerships with agencies who serve mutual clients, all of this to maintain affordability.”

St. Jacques is still hopeful that ticket sales pick up for the March 31st show, headlined by bilingual comedian Derek Seguin.

“We hope your (Moose FM) listeners are able to attend the show and if they can’t and all they want to do is support us,” St. Jacques comments, “they can purchase a ticket and give it to a friend.”

Among places tickets are available for the event is Cadence Residence itself.
