Politis abandoning mayoral recount effort *Updated with Politis comments*

Former Cochrane mayor Peter Politis is abandoning his effort to have a recount done for last October’s contest for mayor, which he lost by five votes to Denis Clement.

Politis says with the town fighting his application in court, the process is too long and drawn out.

“We’re going to be at least into the fall this year, maybe even later before we even get to the point of having the application heard,” he tells My Cochrane Now Dot Com. “At some point, I have to give up what I’m doing or the current mayor has to give up what he’s doing.  It just defeats the whole purpose of the application.”

Despite giving up on the recount, Politis is still offering his services to town council.

“Of course.  I’m a civic leader, I’m wide open and if they ask, I’m only happy to help,” he comments.  I believe in our community and I believe in the obligation of all our citizens to partake in our community.”

Politis says it’s high unlikely that he’ll run in 2022.  He says he’s moving on from that chapter of his life with pride, and writing the next chapter.  He has gone back to being a management consultant with specialization in indigenous affairs.

Clement says a statement from the town will be approved at tomorrow night’s council meeting, and he will comment after that.
