New art club gets involved in I.F. Winter Carnival

The Iroquois Falls Winter Carnival opens tonight (Thurs., March 7) and this year, there’s a new element of art to the festivities.

The Ansonville Gallery and Studio is putting on a handful of art-inspired activities, some of which will provide a chance to get indoors from the majority of other carnival events.

Owner Robin Edmunds says her junior and senior art classes have already created their entry for the snow sculpture contest.  They worked in the parking lot at the Lions Den for almost three hours, crafting a huge dragon.

“We painted it some really fantastic colours, it’s a multi-coloured dragon.  The kids call it a snake dragon,” says Edmunds.

Edmunds tells My Cochrane Now Dot Com that an indoor family paint night is scheduled, and there’s a kids’ colouring contest featuring a picture of Bonhomme Carnaval.

“I hope everyone can recognize him,” she says, “and it’s open until the 16th and there is four age groups and prizes for the first place winner.”

The winter carnival itself runs until Sunday, March 17th, wrapping up with a demolition derby.
